Once a rural roadway, SR 8 has undergone significant growth and has evolved into one of Northeast Ohio’s busiest highways.
To meet the increasing traffic demands, the Ohio Department of Transportation launched a major construction and improvement project focusing on SR 8 in Northern Summit County.
Purpose & Needs
The objectives of the Phase I and Phase II SR 8 projects are to complete the chain of improvements that will allow traffic to move safely and with less interruption along SR 8 in northern Summit County from Akron to Cleveland.
This will be achieved by reconstructing SR 8 from just north of SR 303 to Interstate 271 including:
- Adding 10 new bridges
- Improving existing bridges and ramps
- Constructing new two-lane ramps to access I-271 from SR 8 northbound and access SR 8 southbound from I-271 south
- Creating a half-mile connector road
- Resurfacing
- Making improvements to the Highland Road intersection to include widening, new left turn movements and new curbs
